Why is Premier Wynne using 13 year old students to shape sex education in Ontario?

Premier Kathleen Wynne with Lisa and Tessa
Here's an important question that all Ontario parents should be asking this week: why did Premier Kathleen Wynne use two 13 year old girls at a press release in an attempt to shape the sex education curriculum? Why is the premier encouraging these girls with media attention to achieve a political end? Tessa Hill and Lia Valente are two young elementary students who have launched a petition called "We Give Consent" urging Minister Liz Sandals and Premier Wynne to include the topic of "consent" in the new sex education curriculum planned for the school year 2015-16. The students complain that "sexual consent" should not have been omitted in the 2010 Health and Physical Education course. They want to make sure that it's part of the updated version. But since when do we let the students determine the content of curriculum and tell educators and parents what to do? There's something terribly wrong in all this.  (more...)
