Tunnel vision is the process that leads people and institutions to focus on a particular outcome and then ignore all other evidence and ideas. And this phenomenon seems to be at work right now at the Toronto Catholic District School Board where the board is proposing to expropriate the homes of 30 families so it can build a new school there. more
Of course, the board has many more options apart from bulldozing people's homes - for example, using existing surplus space elsewhere, building a smaller school on existing land, renting space in the area, and experimenting with a virtual school - but it seems fixated on creating yet another big-box institution.
Inquiring minds wonder why the board is so enamoured of big-box institutions, given their propensity to chew up and spit out so many of their participants.
