Toronto public school board still in hot water: Sandals

The provincial government is not ruling out the appointment of an investigator into the Toronto District School Board (TDSB), Education Minister Liz Sandals says.

In January, Sandals fired off a number of directives to the Toronto school trustees to clean up their act after a highly critical report by Margaret Wilson concluded the TDSB had become a dysfunctional and toxic workplace.

“I am not appointing an investigator at this time,” Sandals said in a public statement. “However, in light of these concerns, and the board’s long history of struggling with these issues, I am not ruling out that it may be a necessary measure.”

Wilson found a culture of fear at the TDSB where trustees terrorized staff, conspired with each other to keep open under-used schools and spent education dollars on pet projects.
