Tawdry sex case really isn't about sex any more

I don't believe that Prince Andrew and celebrity lawyer Alan Dershowitz had sex with an underage girl that Palm Beacher Jeffrey Epstein kept as a sex slave.

I don't disbelieve it, either. We're talking he-said, she-said here. Prince Andrew and Dershowitz have not been charged with a crime. In America, even lawyers and foreign princes are presumed innocent — which isn't quite the same thing as believing in their innocence.

It is easy to level sex allegations at prominent people. And since sex sells, such allegations will get attention. And since the allegations include selling sex — with Epstein pimping kids to famous pals — it gets even more attention.

But Jane Doe No. 3 — the legal identification of the woman making the allegations now — has some credibility. She is a real victim of Epstein, who "recruited" her when she was 15-years-old. In 2008 Epstein pleaded guilty to charges so watered down that he spent a mere 13 months in the Palm Beach County Jail despite engaging in sexual activity with dozens of underage girls.  (more...)
