In the last provincial election, the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association, OECTA, charged teachers $60 in order to make sure that the Liberals had more campaign money working for them. OECTA wanted to re-elect them. The strategy worked. OECTA wasn’t interested in debating the issues and in choosing the best party to lead Ontarians, but in electing the party that would best support teacher unions and their contracts. Ditto for the current provincial election.
In the previous election, you negatively compared the Progressive Conservatives to the Tea Party. In this election, in a recent letter you sent to teachers you tell them to vote for "an education-friendly government at Queen’s Park.” And so you’re telling teachers without directly stating it to vote for the Liberals.
Mr. Ryan, as president of OECTA, you’re not supposed to take sides in an election and try to scare and pressure teachers on how to vote. This is civic irresponsibility. If OECTA were truly interested in electing the party that would be best for education, students, teachers and families in Ontario, they would want the Liberals out of government. (more...)
