When a grown son brought his mom to a job interview — and she spoke for him — that seemed to encapsulate everything that was wrong with the new crop of graduates.
Dan Kelly, CEO and chair of the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB), said that was just one of the examples provided by employers when asked about the job-readiness level of new graduates applying for jobs.
“This is certainly a hot button issue for small business owners,” Kelly said. “There is great consternation amongst business owners as to the quality of graduates that they’re seeing through their doors.
“They report high levels of satisfaction with current employees but they’re telling us that unfortunately the quality and, in particular, the work ethic of new recruits is just not there,” he said. (more....)
