OSHAWA - A troubled 14-year-old girl accused of going on a recent stabbing rampage at her Pickering high school appeared briefly in court Tuesday.
Looking dishevelled and nonchalant, the handcuffed teen stood quietly in the prisoner’s box as her lawyer, Tom Balka, arranged her next court date.
The girl allegedly arrived at Dunbarton High School on Feb. 23 with two large kitchen knives and sent fellow students running for the lives.
Seven people — five students and two staff — were injured by the time faculty subdued the knife-wielding assailant. No one suffered serious wounds.
The accused, who can’t be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with six counts of assault causing bodily harm, seven counts of assault with a weapon and one count each of assault and weapons dangerous. (more...)
