Lawmaker wants surrogate motherhood banned in Russia

Moscow, November 11, Interfax - Head of the State Duma's Committee for Family, Women and Children's Affairs Yelena Mizulina has proposed banning surrogate motherhood in Russia.

"Perhaps mankind will understand some day that if our planet is to survive, methods destroying the natural environment, natural conception and natural reproduction must be banned, like nuclear weapons are banned," Mizulina said at a conference, dedicated to the 400th anniversary of the Romanov dynasty at the Manezh exhibition center.

Surrogate motherhood "is something that will destroy not only Russia, but Mankind as a whole," she said.  (more...)
