Canada's Christian canary in the mine

As early as the start of the 20th century, coal miners used to bring canaries into mine tunnels to measure the level of dangerous gases like carbon monoxide and methane. If any of the canaries began to show symptoms of being sick or died, it was a sure sign that the miners needed to get out quickly in order to protect and save their lives.

Today's canaries in some instances are human and they are Christian. Sadly, in many cases they are living in countries with Christian roots. In this posting, I'm speaking not of some person living in a third world country, but in Canada. And not to sound alarmist, but please bear with me, and let's simply look at the facts. After that, you decide. But as Christians we cannot bury our heads in the sand.

This week the principal Paul Donovan of Loyola High School, a private Catholic high school in Montreal, Quebec, came out publicly to say that recent government laws threaten the very identity of the school.  (more...)
