A Stoney Creek teacher found guilty of two sexually-related charges was in court Friday to determine his sentence.
Defence for Giuseppe Graziano, a 56-year-old who taught cosmetology at Cathedral Secondary School, argued for a sentence of two years for his charges of sexual interference with a person under 14 and sexual exploitation. Those incidents took place between 2007 and 2010 with a former student.
That victim's name and the witnesses involved in the case are protected by a publication ban. Graziano was found guilty in August,
The Crown believed Graziano's offences warranted between five and six years in jail. A decision on the sentencing will not be made until Oct. 29.
The defence for Graziano said his client's actions "were not violent" and argued that the relationship could have been deemed "mutually beneficial to both parties." That second statement led to audible scoffing from multiple onlookers in the courtroom. (more...)
