This week, we bring a special guest, who's name most will not recognize. Melissa Ellsworth was a forensics nurse and correctional guard who suffered a head injury trying to save an elderly woman from a dangerous patient. She has been battling Workers Compensation ever since, and has now been approved for Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD). She tells her story.

Seemingly connected to this tragedy was the announcement late this week from the Minister of Public Safety that the federal government will be sticking with the RCMP in more or less its current form. 

While we were waiting for Melissa Ellsworth to get connected, Adam told Paul about a Nova Scotia case that went to the Supreme Court of Canada, which turned on the question of whether pretending to do a magic act where women were sawed in half was an act which was sexual in nature.

Pentagon audit reveals 'untracked' billions in US arms sent to Israel

 

The US War Department recently failed its eighth consecutive financial audit of a trillion-dollar budget, in a 'flagrant disregard for public funds'

A Pentagon audit concluded that the US military did not properly track significant portions of the $13.4 billion in military aid sent to Israel to support the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza, Defense News reported on 29 December.

The audit conducted by the Pentagon’s inspector general revealed that as of November 2024, the US military had maintained records for only 44 percent of the defense articles subject to enhanced monitoring.

Before the genocide in Gaza began, the US military tracked 69 percent of defense articles transferred to Israel.

Oversight of defense articles sold, leased, or exported to foreign partners through end-use monitoring programs is required by US federal law.

The audit further revealed that US Central Command (CENTCOM) and the Defense Security Cooperation Agency “did not conduct adequate oversight of the EEUM program in Israel.”  (more...)

Breaking Out of Media Group-Think

 

The past two years have seen a catastrophic failure by Western journalists to report properly what amounts to an undoubted genocide in Gaza. This has been a low point even by the dismal standards set by our profession, and further reason why audiences continue to distrust us in ever greater numbers.

There is a comforting argument — comforting especially for those journalists who have failed so scandalously during this period — that seeks to explain, and excuse, this failure. Israel’s exclusion of Western reporters, so the claim goes, has made it impossible to determine exactly what is occurring on the ground in Gaza.

There are several obvious rejoinders to this.

First, why would any journalist give Israel the benefit of the doubt in Gaza — as we have been doing — when it is the party keeping out reporters? The media’s working assumption must be that Israel has excluded us because it has plenty to hide. The obligation must be on Israel to demonstrate that it is acting out of military necessity and proportionately. That cannot be the starting point, as it has been, of Western media coverage.

When one party, Israel, denies journalists the chance to report, our default responsibility is to adopt a posture of extreme scepticism towards its claims. It is to subject those claims to intense scrutiny — all the more so when the world’s highest court has ruled that that Israel’s very presence in Gaza is as an illegal occupier, one that should have left the Palestinian territories long ago.

Second, and just as self-evidently, this explanation arrogantly discounts the work of hundreds of Palestinian journalists who have risked their lives to show us precisely what is happening in Gaza. It is to view their contribution, even as they are being slaughtered by Israel in unprecedented numbers, as, at best, worthless and as, at worst, Hamas propaganda. It is to breathe life into Israel’s self-serving rationalisations for murdering our colleagues – and thereby sets a precedent that normalises the targeting of journalists in the future.

It is also to treat these Palestinian journalists with the same colonial contempt demonstrated by British aristocrats a century ago, when they promised away the Palestinians’ homeland to European Jews, as if Palestine was a possession Britain was entitled to dispose of as it saw fit.

And third – and this is the issue I want to grapple with tonight – the presence of Western journalists in Gaza would not have made any dramatic difference to the way the slaughter of Palestinians was presented. Audiences would still have received a sanitised version of the genocide. Failure is baked into Western media coverage of Israel and Palestine. Canadian Border Officials Question International Law Scholar On Palestinians' Right To Resist

 

Professor Richard Falk, former UN Special Rapporteur for the Occupied Palestinian Territories, is one of the world's leading scholars in international humanitarian law. He's also Jewish.

On his 95th birthday, Professor Falk travelled from his home in the United States to Canada to participate in the Palestine Tribunal on Canadian Responsibility.

When he arrived at Toronto's Pearson International Airport, Canadian border officials took his passport and that of his wife, Hilal Elver, who accompanied him. Like Professor Falk, Ms. Elver is an accomplished scholar in international law.

Ultimately, Canadian border officials detained them at Pearson airport for four hours. A customs official questioned them extensively about the Palestinian cause. Among other things, they were asked whether they support the Palestinian right to resist.

In this joint interview with Dr. David Kattenburg, host of Green Planet Monitor, Dimitri Lascaris speaks with Professor Falk about his interactions with Canadian border officials.

They also discuss a recent UN Security Council resolution approving Donald Trump's 'peace plan' for Gaza, and the Canadian government's decision to recognize the State of Palestine.

The global Zionist organ trafficking conspiracy

 

In his latest investigation, Kit Klarenberg uncovers how "Israel" sits at the center of a global organ-trafficking network, linking recent arrests, decades of scandals, and the Gaza genocide to a vast illicit trade shielded from accountability.

In early October, Israeli-Ukrainian Boris Wolfman was arrested in Russia. He is charged with masterminding a criminal organ trafficking scheme. His capture, wholly ignored by the Western media, raises the prospect that at long last, some justice will be served in a number of major organ trafficking scandals, dating back many years. Wolfman’s apprehension also highlights Tel Aviv’s little-scrutinised role as the world’s centre of illegal organ harvesting and trafficking. Grimly, the Gaza genocide may have greatly facilitated this perverse commerce.

Ever since October 7th, credible allegations have widely circulated that Zionist Occupation Forces are illegally harvesting the organs of slain Palestinians. In November 2023, the Euro-Med Monitor published a report documenting how Israeli soldiers confiscated dozens of corpses from major hospitals in Gaza, to the extent of digging up and raiding mass graves built in their grounds to accommodate the never-ending influx of slaughtered civilians. While some bodies were subsequently handed over to the Red Cross, many were and remain withheld.

Euro-Med Monitor records how many corpses exhibited clear indications of organ harvesting, including missing cochleas and corneas, as well as hearts, kidneys, and livers. Since then, the Zionist entity has released token numbers of murdered Palestinians at intermittent intervals to their surviving relatives. Frequently, the bodies are decomposed beyond recognition, making conducting professional autopsies - and identifying whether organs have been stolen - difficult if not impossible. Sometimes, the corpses are frozen solid, again greatly complicating medical examinations, and potentially obscuring organ theft.

The 1949 Fourth Geneva Convention mandates respect for the dignity of dead civilians, and explicitly prohibits the looting or mutilation of their bodies during wartime. However, the Zionist entity has not only failed to ratify the treaty, but expressly rejects its applicability to Gaza and the illegally-occupied West Bank. Moreover, repulsive local laws and legal precedents unique to Tel Aviv grant authorities the power to refuse to release dead Palestinians to their families.

Their bodies can be used as grisly bargaining chips - or their organs looted with impunity. For decades, the Zionist entity has been the illicit organ trade’s international nucleus. While Palestinians have long-raised alarm over Tel Aviv’s theft of their fallen comrades’ organs, it was not until the early 2000s that the practice was officially admitted. Yehuda Hiss, head of "Israel’s" Abu Kabir Institute, openly boasted of harvesting skin, bones, and other human materials during autopsies. He was never punished, suggesting his macabre activities were state-sanctioned.

This interpretation is amply reinforced by former Institute employee Meira Weiss’ 2014 work Over Their Dead Bodies. She reveals how, during the First Intifada 1987 - 1993, ZOF officials directed the centre “to harvest organs from Palestinians using a military regulation that an autopsy must be conducted on every killed Palestinian.” This gave them free rein to seize whatever they wished from bodies in their care. Institute apparatchiks nostalgically referred to these years as the “good days”, as they could pilfer organs “consistently and freely”.

Disturbingly, the Gaza genocide’s catastrophic death toll may represent the dawning of a new era of “good days” for the Zionist entity’s organ trade. Wolfman’s arrest, and the collapse of the conspiracies he oversaw, are unlikely to dent Tel Aviv’s operations in the field. He was but one player in a world-spanning nexus of Israeli traffickers. In the manner of a hydra, Wolfman’s removal will simply lead to others taking his place. After all, the returns are high, and risks mysteriously low.  (more...)

Mohawk Mothers announce injunction motion

 

The Mohawk Mothers, also known as the Kanien’kehá:ka Kahnistensera, say they will be filing an interlocutory motion with Quebec’s Superior Court in the coming weeks, the latest move in a years-long court battle concerning excavation work at the sites of the former Royal Victoria Hospital and the Allan Memorial Institute.

The Mothers and their supporters gathered on Tuesday morning, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, addressing the media before Montreal’s Every Child Matters march.

A group of more than 50 people attended the event, wearing orange and occupying the grass in front of the Allan Memorial Institute, where the illegal psychiatric experiments were undertaken on human subjects in the 1950s and 1960s.

Those experiments include a US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) mind control project known as MK-Ultra, and at least one survivor of the facility, Lana Ponting, has given sworn affidavits in court testifying that she believes Indigenous victims were killed and buried at the site.

That site and the neighbouring site of the former Royal Victoria Hospital are part of the New Vic Project, led by McGill University and the Societe quebecoise des infrastructures (SQI). The project, which was recently renamed “The Sustainability Park” will serve as a teaching and learning site for multi-disciplinary researchers.

The Mothers have long claimed that both the Allan Memorial Institute site and the Royal Victoria Hospital site could include the unmarked graves of Indigenous people, a claim that they say is backed up by findings from an S4 Subterra Grey Probe, a type of soil analysis designed to detect potential burials, as well as alerts from human remains detection dogs.  (more...)

Swiss Air 111 Crash and Coverup

 

Tom Juby joins the show again for an in-depth discussion of Swiss Air Flight 111, which crashed into the ocean off Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia just over 27 years ago, on September 2, 1998. Mr. Juby was assigned to document and catalogue the recovered bodies, and hundreds of thousands of plane parts that were recovered from the water. 

In the face of direction from his superiors to alter his notes and avoid any discussion of potential criminality, Mr. Juby persisted in his investigation, showing that the fire that brought down the plane was deliberately set. The CBC has shielded its audience from key facts and context, ensuring moral indifference and passive complicity

Anyone who has doubted the Chomsky-Herman propaganda model of mass media has surely had their skepticism tested over the past 22 months. The axiom that media “serve to mobilize support for the special interests that dominate the state” by distorting or suppressing facts is nowhere more evident than in Western reporting on Gaza. Likewise, the model’s depiction of “worthy” versus “unworthy” victims—portraying “murderous aggression as a defense of freedom”—perfectly encapsulates mainstream coverage of Israel’s indiscriminate killing of Palestinian civilians. Consent for this barbarity could not have been manufactured without the uniform complicity of a pliant press. Public media should provide a corrective to corporate distortions; yet Canada’s public broadcaster, the CBC, has repeatedly failed in this duty. By refusing to deliver accurate, comprehensive, and contextually rich reporting on Israel’s assault, it has denied Canadians the information they need to act on conscience and to pressure their government to help end the savagery. In effect, the CBC has made Canadians complicit in genocide.

Like other Western media, Canadian coverage of Gaza suffers from a structural bias rooted in concentrated ownership. Postmedia Network, controlled by a US-based hedge fund, controls roughly 112 Canadian newspapers, all pushing a uniform pro-Israel editorial line. Its flagship, the National Post, churns out content that reads as though it were ghostwritten by Likud—if not for the simplistic formulations more fitting for a middle-school newsletter. Faced with this bleak media landscape, many Canadians turned to the CBC, expecting a more impartial perspective. What they found was a public broadcaster that mirrored the same misleading narratives and manipulative reporting, offering coverage no more reliable than its corporate counterparts. And as Canadians voiced frustration, the CBC responded not with reform, but with craven, self-justifying apologetics.

As with its Western peers, the CBC has systematically stripped essential context from its reporting. The Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, was rarely framed against the backdrop of Israel’s 75-year occupation, repeated international-law violations, or dozens of UN Security Council resolutions condemning its conduct. As Israel’s brutal assault unfolded, the CBC downplayed or omitted critical information. Landmark legal rulings were barely acknowledged: in January 2024, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) found Israel’s actions amounted to a “plausible” genocide; in July, the ICJ declared Israel’s 57-year occupation illegal; in September, the UN General Assembly voted in favour of sanctions, and arrest warrants were issued for Israeli leaders. These decisions, briefly mentioned at the time, vanished from coverage, directly contradicting the CBC’s mission “to learn, understand, and clearly explain the facts to our audience.”

During her November 2024 visit to Canada, UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese presented an opportunity to probe the nation’s legal obligations and Israel’s atrocities. CBC ignored Albanese’s calls for a Canadian audit of collaborations with Israel, failed to cover her report documenting Gaza’s “scorched-earth catastrophe,” and did not report that her meetings with Canadian officials were abruptly cancelled, which she attributed to “very vocal, very virulent, very aggressive” pressure from pro-Israel lobby groups. These omissions deprived Canadians of essential knowledge that might have compelled political action.  (more...)
