Yatim shooting: Forcillo's 2nd-degree murder trial begins

The murder trial of Toronto Police Const. James Forcillo begins this morning in a downtown courtroom, one week after it was initially scheduled to start.

Forcillo, 32, is charged with attempted murder and second-degree murder in the shooting death of teenager Sammy Yatim on an emptied Dundas St. streetcar on July 27, 2013.

Forcillo has pleaded not guilty.

The shocking shooting was captured on cellphone video and watched almost a million times on YouTube. Yatim was holed up in an empty streetcar, surrounded by police officers. Voices can be heard demanding that he drop a knife. Then nine shots could be heard.

Yatim, 18, died at the scene.  (more...)
