Ont. teacher accused of voyeurism for hidden camera at school fired

LONDON, Ont. - A special education teacher accused of secretly recording women in a school change room has been fired, Postmedia Network has learned.

Jamie Gardiner, 37, a teacher at Ashley Oaks public school until this week, was on home duties after being charged in March with two counts of voyeurism after a camera was found in a backpack in a change room.

In mid April, police announced 19 additional charges against Gardiner, after an investigation turned up images of 18 more women recorded in a cloak room and staff washroom at the school.

"This was so egregious to the board that we needed to act," Thames Valley District school board spokewoman Laura Elliot said. "The decision was based on the internal evidence based on our investigation and independent of the criminal charges."  (more...)
