Even as police arrived at Dundonald School to arrest Jayson Clarke Kennard on child luring charges, the teacher was using his school-issued laptop to send messages to a 16-year-old boy, trying to set up a sexual encounter.

What Kennard would soon find out was that the teen’s Facebook account had been taken over just the day before by police, and that they were documenting every word he typed, including when Kennard offered to perform oral sex, asked the teen for a nude photo and suggested a video chat in the nude.

Kennard, 40, was arrested on Aug. 28, 2013. On Monday, his trial in Saskatoon Court of Queen’s Bench began and Kennard pleaded not guilty to luring a person under 18 using the Internet.

After Kennard was charged, the Saskatoon public school division initially suspended him with pay, then terminated his contract. He is not currently teaching.  (more...)
