Dr. Don Briel on Catholic Universities and Surrender of Moral Authority

The modern Catholic university’s decision to turn theology studies into an academic, intellectual pursuit separated from a relationship with the Church, has led to grave consequences and a surrendering of “moral authority to shape the souls of students,” argued Dr. Don Briel, founder of the Center for Catholic Studies at the University of Saint Thomas, at a recent conference.

The Cardinal Newman Society reported last month that Briel announced his retirement from the Center following 21 years at the helm of the program.
