In August of 2024, I came across a photo of two Israeli soldiers in a home in Khan Younis (Gaza) that they were occupying. I don't know what happened to the people who lived there. Both were from Israel's 603 Battalion. Sergeant Shalev Xinbar and Sergeant Roee Ben Abu. For more than a year we had seen soldiers dressing up in Palestinian women's lingerie and underwear. That wasn't new. What stood out most for me was the world that these soldiers had created for themselves. Teenage sergeants. Zits and all. I thought to myself, nothing encapsulates Israel better at this most than these two gleeful and maniacal little boys with their murderous machinery hanging off their bodies. I immediately began to zoom in and talk about what I was seeing. After putting it up on Instagram, the executive director of the Lausanne Film Festival saw it and asked me to submit the film for festival consideration. A couple weeks later, TikTok's Israel soldiers became Official Selection of the festival. I headed to Switzerland with the film. I don't know where these two depraved degenerates are today but I'd love for them to see the film.

Swiss singer Nemo’s decision follows boycott announcements by a host of EU nations

Swiss singer Nemo announced on Thursday that he is returning his 2024 Eurovision Song Contest trophy in protest over Israel’s continued participation in the competition.

Nemo, who won last year’s contest with the song ‘The Code’, said on Thursday that the trophy “no longer belongs on my shelf.”

“Eurovision says it stands for unity, for inclusion and dignity for all people,” Nemo said in a social media post, adding that Israel’s participation during what the UN’s Independent International Commission of Inquiry said is a genocide shows “a clear conflict” with those principles.

The singer said he would send the trophy back to the European Broadcasting Union’s (EBU) headquarters in Geneva and urged the organization to “live what you claim.”

According to Nemo, he is not protesting artists or fans but how the contest has been “used to soften the image of a state accused of severe wrongdoing.”  (more...)

Swiss official who jailed journalist Ali Abunimah is fanatical pro-Israel activist

 

Mario Fehr, the Swiss security official who ordered the arrest of Ali Abunimah, is a rabidly pro-Zionist politician who falsely branded the Palestinian American journalist as “an Islamist Jew-hater.” In the past, Fehr has taken pride in banning Palestine solidarity demonstrations.

The Swiss official who ordered the arrest of renowned Palestinian-American journalist Ali Abunimah justified doing so on the false and defamatory basis that Abunimah is “an Islamist Jew-hater.” Mario Fehr, the head of Zurich’s Department of Security, made the bogus accusation in a recent comment to the Swiss publication NZZ, which also falsely characterized Abunimah as an “Islamist” and an “extremist.”

Swiss authorities detained Abunimah on Jan. 25, after they initially allowed him entry into Switzerland following an hour-long interrogation. Abunimah was deported on Jan. 27 after two nights, during which Swiss officials refused to tell him whether he was being charged with a crime. According to the Swiss newspaper NZZ, officers in Zurich successfully petitioned federal police for an arrest warrant after realizing Abunimah had travelled to the country in order to deliver a speech at an event organized by the Zurich Palestine Committee. Fehr explained the arrest by stating, in reference to self-described “non-religious person” Ali Abunimah: “We do not want an Islamist Jew-hater who calls for violence in Switzerland.”

It’s unclear how Fehr came to adopt this patently false claim, but the article in NZZ gives a hint. In painting the secular Abunimah as a jihadist, the story’s authors relied on a leader of a little-known group called “Never Again Is Now,” (NAIN) which characterizes itself as “the only non-profit organization in Switzerland dedicated exclusively to combating antisemitism,” says it “demands the uncompromising enforcement of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s definition of antisemitism,” and claims: “we… defend Israel against anti-Zionist agendas.”

NZZ quoted one of the group’s board members, Thomas Patzko, as stating “Abunimah and his platform are a mouthpiece for Hamas.” The outlet cited NAIN while insisting that Abunimah “delegitimizes the victims of the terrorist attack on October 7, specifically women and children” – a reference to Abunimah’s factual statement that “there is no credible evidence of a single rape on October 7.”  (more...)

Switzerland launches probe into suspected Israeli war criminal

 

Israeli soldiers are facing numerous criminal complaints in courts worldwide over the multitude of crimes against humanity they have committed inside Gaza

The Hind Rajab Foundation (HRF) announced on 5 February that Swiss authorities have launched a probe into “a suspected Israeli war criminal currently present in Switzerland” after the NGO filed a criminal complaint.

“The complaint provides extensive evidence implicating the individual in war crimes and crimes against humanity, including attacks on civilians, destruction of homes and hospitals, forced displacement, and other grave violations of international law committed in the Gaza Strip,” HRF said in a statement.

Over the past several months, HRF has been filing criminal complaints across the world targeting dual-national Israeli soldiers who served in Gaza during the genocide.

“I was deeply impacted by witnessing the level of impunity displayed by the Israelis, who were not only committing [war] crimes but also recording and posting them on social media, acting as if they were above any legal framework … Our main goal is to end impunity and create some form of accountability for these criminals,” HRF Chairman Dyab Abou Jahjah told The Cradle in an exclusive interview.  (more...)

Swiss Intelligence, Pro-Israel Groups Coordinated to Silence Palestinian Journalist Ali Abunimah

 

Prolific Palestinian-American journalist and Electronic Intifada founder Ali Abunimah was arrested by plain-clothed police and later deported from Switzerland, while convicted Israeli war criminals visit the European continent freely. This comes as part of a wider trend that has seen Western nations crack down on pro-Palestine activists and journalists.

Abunimah was detained by plainclothes police officers on the streets of Zurich, subjected to two days of interrogation, and held in detention before his deportation. The arrest drew sharp criticism from United Nations experts, who warned that “the climate surrounding freedom of speech in Europe is becoming increasingly toxic.”

Abunimah’s trip to Switzerland was set to conclude with a speech on the Palestinian struggle. But shortly after his arrival, he became the subject of a media attack. The Swiss outlet NZZ published a piece attempting to link him to Islamic fundamentalism and anti-Semitism. The article quoted a board member of the Zionist group Never Again Is Now (NAIN), who alleged that “Abunimah and his platform are a mouthpiece for Hamas.”

Mario Fehr, the official behind Abunimah’s arrest on January 25, is a staunchly pro-Israel activist and security figure in Switzerland known for attending and speaking at pro-Israel rallies. The precise reason for Abunimah’s detention and deportation remains unclear—he was held without charge—but the circumstances suggest his journalistic work was a likely factor.

While Abunimah faced arrest, interrogation, and eventual deportation on January 27, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was granted permission by Polish authorities to visit the Auschwitz memorial, despite an active International Criminal Court arrest warrant. ‘Incitement to Genocide’ – Swiss Prosecutors Review Complaints against Israeli President

 

Swiss prosecutors are reviewing complaints, including one by Legal Action Against Genocide, accusing Israeli President Isaac Herzog of “incitement to genocide” in Gaza during his visit to Davos.

Swiss federal prosecutors are reviewing multiple complaints filed against Israeli President Isaac Herzog, who is attending the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, concerning “incitement to genocide” in Gaza.

The Swiss Office of the Attorney General (OAG) confirmed to Swiss agency Keystone-ATS on Wednesday that it has received several complaints, including one filed by the NGO Legal Action Against Genocide, the Anadolu news agency reported.

The NGO reportedly seeks Herzog’s prosecution “for incitement to genocide and crimes against humanity.”

The OAG said it is following “standard procedures” to assess the allegations and is coordinating with the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs to address the issue of diplomatic immunity, which protects heads of state during official visits.  (more...)

US Senators say Credit Suisse did not review all records when probing Nazi-linked accounts

 

Swiss lender Credit Suisse did not review all available records when it conducted an internal probe into the historical servicing of Nazi clients and Nazi-linked accounts, according to an investigation published by U.S. lawmakers on Thursday.

The bank failed to include numerous relevant records in its probe, according to details from an independent reviewer's report obtained and published by the Senate Budget Committee.

"Just under" 1,000 of 65,000 sets of records were available electronically for review, the report said.

The full report also revealed that the bank had blocked the former ombudsman overseeing the probe from seeing "critical" materials, the committee said in a statement.

"Out of respect for Holocaust victims and their families, we cannot turn a blind eye to these shortcomings," Republican Senator Chuck Grassley, the ranking member of the Senate Budget Committee, said in a statement.

Neil Barofsky, the former ombudsman, and AlixPartners, the consulting firm Credit Suisse hired to conduct the probe, did not respond immediately to a requests for comment.  (more...)
