How Palestine Activists Eked Out a Win at the Canadian Labour Congress

Canadian Labour Congress Histadrut Israel Palestine solidarity hot cargo Israel lobby influence

Canada's biggest labour body agreed to cut ties with its Israeli counterpart

The largest labour organization in Canada has committed to cutting ties with Israel’s trade federation, the Histadrut.

A resolution passed at the constitutional convention of the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) in Winnipeg earlier this month also calls on the Canadian government to support a two-way arms embargo, suspend the Canada-Israel Free Trade Agreement and condemn Israeli settlement expansion.

Kevin MacKay, who attended the convention as a delegate from the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE), told PressProgress that, when it came time for the vote, “We had a lot of the biggest labour leaders in the hall lining up at the mic to either speak or show support for the resolution.”

“It’s amazing to have leadership on board,” said MacKay, an anthropology professor at Mohawk College. “That’s not always the case.”

Until the eleventh hour, delegates like MacKay weren’t sure if they would be voting on a resolution to cut ties with the Histadrut — after a resolution to declare trade, services and relationships with Israel to be “hot cargo” was disqualified altogether.

MacKay is a member of Labour For Palestine (L4P), a volunteer-run effort made up of workers from across Canada. The group has been organizing to pass hot-cargo resolutions at provincial labour federations that would instruct workers to refrain from handling all goods produced by, or going to, Israel.

Less than a week before the convention began, activists with L4P got word that the resolution they spearheaded, which would have committed the CLC to issuing a hot-cargo declaration and cutting ties with the Histadrut, had been given a “non-concurrence” decision by the CLC’s General Resolutions Committee, meaning it wouldn’t be presented to delegates for a vote.

“We believe that this is a political discussion and a political decision,” Hassan Husseini, a member of L4P’s national steering committee, told PressProgress just ahead of the convention.  (more...)

The Hidden Roots Of Pentecostal Control

Pentecostalism religion Mosaic Law cults heresy British Israelism elitism John Alexander Dowie Christian Identity

John explains how Old Covenant prophecy functioned within Israel’s covenant framework and why modern teachers distort that framework when they treat ancient Israel’s covenant promises and curses as direct predictions for their own movements. The discussion traces how British Israelism, holiness perfectionism, and early Pentecostal communal movements blurred the line between biblical covenant theology and leader-made religious systems.

The episode examines John Alexander Dowie, Frank Sanford, and Charles Fox Parham as examples of how selective Old Testament law, British Israel identity claims, and “holy community” language shaped authoritarian religious boundaries. Instead of pointing people to the New Covenant of grace, these leaders created systems where they decided which rules made a person holy, loyal, or spiritually superior.

Muzzling goes to new extremes on US campuses

censorship students education youth Gaza genocide Palestine solidarity Zionists repression imperialism colonialism racism white supremacy oppression ethnic cleansing

Does Vietnam still haunt Americans? Forever wars in the Middle East and Donald Trump’s war of aggression against Iran – which began with the killing of scores of young school children in Minab before moving on to casual threats of genocide from the US president – suggest otherwise.

Americans continue to vote for leaders who enmesh them in imperial undertakings that eviscerate the populations of targeted countries and leave the American soldiers participating with devastating physical and psychological scars.

I thought in recent days of the war crime perpetrated by Vietnam veteran Bob Kerrey, the former president of The New School as well as former Democratic governor and US senator for the state of Nebraska. His former university has recently received attention for Palestine-related efforts in the student senate and the resulting backlash against the attempt to stop student and university complicity in Israel’s Gaza genocide.

In 2001, The New York Times Magazine reported on Kerrey’s involvement in the 1969 massacre at Thanh Phong.

Gregory L. Vistica wrote of the massacre that “around midnight on Feb. 25, 1969, Kerrey and his men killed at least 13 unarmed women and children. The operation was brutal; for months afterward, Kerrey says, he feared going to sleep because of the terrible nightmares that haunted him.”

Other reports put the number of civilians killed at 20 and emphasize that Kerrey only spoke of his being “haunted” by the incident after decades of silence, suggesting political expediency. Bao Anh Thai, a lawyer in Vietnam, wrote on Facebook of Kerrey’s 2016 appointment to be chair of the board of Fulbright University Vietnam: “Please tell me the name of any prestigious university in this world, where a killer in cold blood of women and children – he admitted it and he is not charged for it – could be the president.”

The New School answered that question years earlier, part and parcel of a country that has never properly reckoned with the war crimes its military has committed.  (more...)

Saint George Palestine Israel genocide Britain English flag cross Nakba

This week we can confirm reports that Israel has ordered Trump to resume the illegal war on Iran this week, coming at a time where the war has already wrecked the global economy. All this coming after a humiliating visit by Trump and his massive entourage to China. Also, this weekend saw two opposing demonstrations in London on the same day - the Palestinian 78th commemoration of the "Nakba" - when Israeli settlers massacred and ethnically cleansed the native Palestinian population in 1948, and Tommy Robinson's "Unite the Kingdom" anti-Muslim rally, will most of Robinson's followers adorned with the English flag with its cross of St. George symbol alongside the Israeli flag - while completely unaware that England's patron saint was in fact... a Palestinian.

Cindy Jacobs, Numerology, and the Hidden History of the NAR

Cindy Jacobs New Apostolic Reformation Voice of Prophecy Branham Christ for the Nations politics

John explores how modern prophetic leaders such as Cindy Jacobs trace directly back to the numerology-driven theology of William Branham, Gordon Lindsay, and the Voice of Healing movement. The episode unpacks how Jacobs’ 5777 prophecy, her connection to the International Coalition of Apostles, and her political messaging around Donald Trump mirror the same manipulative patterns embedded in early Latter Rain teachings.

John explains that these networks merge fortune-telling techniques, authoritarian apostolic structures, and political propaganda into a system designed to influence followers through confusing numerology and claims of divine insight. By tracing Jacobs’ involvement with Christ for the Nations and her reliance on later-rain numerological frameworks, the episode shows how today’s NAR “prophecies” are recycled patterns from Branham-era cult dynamics rather than authentic expressions of biblical prophecy.

Eurovision 2026 faces biggest boycott in 70-year history

Eurovision Boycott Israel music protest Palestine solidarity activism

Broadcasters from Spain, Ireland, the Netherlands, Iceland and Slovenia have withdrawn from this week’s event over Israel’s participation

Public broadcasters in Spain, Ireland and Slovenia have said they would not air the 70th anniversary Eurovision Song Contest, which begins on Tuesday in Austria and will culminate in Saturday’s grand finale, citing opposition to Israel’s participation.

The three countries, along with the Netherlands and Iceland, withdrew on Monday from this year’s event in Vienna, leaving the contest facing the biggest boycott in its 70-year history.

Vienna police have said they expect disruptive protests and possible attempts to block the event, particularly on the last day. Authorities said a pro-Palestinian demonstration involving around 3,000 people has been registered for May 16.

Earlier this year, the broadcasters urged contest organizers at the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) to bar Israel over alleged vote-rigging and the war in Gaza. The EBU said Israel met the contest’s eligibility requirements and would remain in this year’s competition.

Israel has rejected accusations of genocide since launching its operation targeting Hamas in Gaza after the militant group made its deadly incursion into southern Israel in October 2023, killing 1,200 people and taking 250 others hostage. The enclave’s authorities say Israel’s response has left nearly 70,000 Palestinians dead.  (more...)

"My commanders liked the fact I was a Nazi. They saw it as making me a better warrior."

Matt Kennard is a British investigative journalist who co-founded Declassified UK, and is also the author of Irregular Army. It’s a book that uncovers how the US military, desperate to fill its ranks during the War on Terror, began looking the other way on things that would once have disqualified soldiers from serving, such as neo-Nazi tattoos, gang affiliations, and mental illness.

In this conversation on Real Talk, Kennard speaks with Mohamed Hashem about the openly neo-Nazi veterans he met and interviewed, the moral waiver programme that opened the door to convicted felons, and the Rumsfeld Doctrine that was the catalyst.

Ben Shapiro is coming to Canada to oppose antizionism. Here's why this is beyond disgusting

Canada influencers Zionists Ben Shapiro depravity genocide starvation books atrocity

In less than two weeks, Ben Shapiro is coming to Canada as part of a conference “against antizionism.”

I have to say, the depth of human cruelty required to put on this kind of conference is pretty incredible.

See, on Friday, I was in Ottawa to host a conversation with Yasuko Thanh, in which we discussed Hassan Kanafani’s book: Pizza Before We Die.

ORDER HERE: https://arsenalpulp.com/Books/P/Pizza-Before-We-Die

The book is a collection of eyewitness accounts written by a man living in Gaza during Israel’s genocide. It documents the very human, day-to-day reality of living through some of the worst horrors of our lifetime.

It breaks through all the noise and reminds you of a simple fact: what Israel is doing in Gaza is indefensible on every level.

In today’s video, I plan to read you an excerpt from this book.

Then, we’re going to contrast the words you hear against this effort — soon to arrive in Toronto-area conference room — that seeks to demonize people who oppose those horrors.

The 1948 Election Clue Behind Modern NAR Politics

religion heresy cults politics fear Christian Identity Pentecostalism

John examines how the 1948 United States presidential election, postwar anxiety, Cold War fears, and Gerald L.K. Smith's Christian nationalist campaign help explain older political and religious currents that later resurfaced in Pentecostal and charismatic networks. The discussion traces connections involving Gordon Lindsay, Christian Identity themes, Roy Davis, Wesley Swift, William Branham's movement, and the rhetoric of national crisis, apocalyptic cycles, and spiritual warfare.

Rather than treating the New Apostolic Reformation as a brand-new development, John argues that many of its political and prophetic frameworks have older roots in revival history, British Israelism, Christian Identity, anti-New Deal rhetoric, and opposition to desegregation. The episode also responds to modern debates about NAR criticism, including Dr. Michael Brown's argument that many of these themes predate the modern label, while warning that the deeper history is far darker than many people realize.

Understanding the shared ideology behind settler colonialism in Native America and Palestine

settler colonialism Native America Palestine genocide exploitation looting history ideology

Both the United States and Israel were founded and exist on land taken during ongoing genocides. Settler colonialism drives these genocides, and both nations share an ideology that justifies the theft and rationalizes the killing.

The United States was founded and exists on stolen Native American land, taken in the course of an ongoing national genocide. Israel was founded and exists on stolen Palestinian land, taken in the course of an ongoing national genocide. In both nations, these genocides are a structural part of settler colonialism. And as I will argue in what follows, the ideology grounding settler colonialism in both nations comes from the same source, helping to cement a long-standing relationship between Israel and the United States.

Settler colonialism is a variation of colonialism. Colonialism is the takeover of one country by another to exploit its resources, material and human. Settler colonialism is the takeover of one country by another to settle it with the invading country’s population through the elimination of the Indigenous population and the theft of Indigenous land. Colonialism exploits the Indigenous population’s labor and land. Settler colonialism eliminates or seeks to eliminate the Indigenous population to take its land. That is, settler colonialism typically involves genocide. I am defining genocide in two ways: first, as it is defined in international law in Article II of the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide:

In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:

  • Killing members of the group;
  • Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;
  • Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;
  • Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;
  • Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.

The term genocide was coined by the legal scholar Raphael Lemkin in the wake of the Holocaust and is typically understood to entail a cataclysmic crime whose intent and enormous scale is manifest as was the extermination of six million Jews by the Nazis or the hundreds of thousands of Tutsis murdered by the Hutus in the Rwandan genocide of 1994. But Lemkin’s definition, while pointing to a cataclysmic physical crime, also defines genocide as a daily process of the social and political destruction of a national group:

Generally speaking, genocide does not necessarily mean the immediate destruction of a nation, except when accomplished by mass killings of all members of a nation. It is intended rather to signify a coordinated plan of different actions aiming at the destruction of essential foundations of the life of national groups, with the aim of annihilating the groups themselves. The objectives of such a plan would be disintegration of the political and social institutions of culture, language, national feelings, religion, and the economic existence of national groups, and the destruction of the personal security, liberty, health, dignity, and even the lives of the individuals belonging to such groups. Genocide is directed against the national group as an entity, and the actions involved are directed against individuals, not in their individual capacity, but as members of the national group. John examines a 1940 Tacoma Times advertisement connecting Gordon Lindsay to Anglo-Saxon Christian Association circles, British Israelite chronology, and the prophetic framework that later shaped parts of the healing revival world. The discussion traces how claims about the lost ten tribes, modern nations, and Old Testament prophecy created a system for reading current events as signs of divine destiny.

The episode also connects Lindsay’s 1952 election chronology, 666-day cycles, Roosevelt-era fears, Palestine, the atomic bomb, and world government rhetoric to modern King Cyrus politics. Rather than treating recent political prophecy as something new, the discussion shows how older British Israelite and Christian Identity-adjacent ideas helped build a pattern of tying elections to spiritual warfare.

“Two Nations. One Voice”: Palestine and Lebanon rally grips Victoria Park

Canada London Palestine Lebanon occupation genocide Nakba ethnic cleansing oppression racism white supremacy violence impunity lawlessness protest

“I was born in Haifa. I am older than Israel,” said Lilian Mattar-Patey, a Windsor-based United Church minister. She addressed crowds gathered beneath a grey sky at Victoria Park in London on April 19 for a Palestine and Lebanon rally; a social media post about the protest read Two Nations. One Voice. Together, we rise. “In 1948, the first day of the Nakba or ‘catastrophe’, my brother was carrying me. I was less than two years old then, and he said that the Israeli soldiers were shooting at us, and one bullet came beside my ear and he said if he didn’t jump, it would have gone in my head. And so the killing continues for so many years…They are doing the same in Lebanon what they did in Gaza. This is repeating itself and the world is sitting watching rather than trying to stop them…What can we do? What you can do is contact politicians and tell them to do something, to speak up for human rights. For Lebanese, Palestinians, and all of humanity, we need to be free to live in our own homelands.”

She listed some of the policies that form Israel’s apartheid state: arbitrary detentions of Palestinians, restricted movement of Palestinians, and demolitions of Palestinian homes.

A 2022 UN report by former UN Special Rapporteur Michael Lynk states that Palestinians can be “imprisoned indefinitely through administrative detention” by Israeli forces. They are incarcerated without charges, evidence, trials, or convictions. The conviction rate is over 99 percent. This includes Palestinian children. Israeli human rights organization B’Tselem reports that Israeli forces had 351 Palestinian children detained or imprisoned at the end of December 2025.

“In the middle of the night, they can come to your home, and take one of your children, and they will have no reason to tell you why they are taking your child,” said Mattar-Petey.

In 2017, fourteen year old Obaida Jawabra was detained by Israeli forces while on his way to a store. The Israelis bound his hands in plastic cords, covered his eyes and nose in a blindfold that made it “hard to breathe”, made him fall as he walked sightless, and beat him “in places that would leave no marks” so that he couldn’t testify to being brutalized. The next year, he shared his story in a 7-minute film, OBAIDA. He had dreams of becoming a chef; in the film, he fries vegetables in sizzling oil, presses sliced tomatoes in a pan, flips a mass of steaming lamb, vegetables, and yellowed rice – maqlouba – onto a dish to the faces of his smiling family. Jawabra asked: “Why are we so different from other children in the world? Why are we detained when we’re young and made to suffer, while others are happy playing sports, and with many opportunities that we don’t have? To this day, no one can answer me.”

Palestinians in East Jerusalem and Israeli-administered territory “Area C” of the West Bank are barred from building homes. Lynk’s report states: The United Nations has observed that, because permits for construction for Palestinian homes and property in East Jerusalem and Area C of the West Bank “are nearly impossible to obtain,” Palestinians often build without one. In turn, the Israeli military frequently orders the demolition of Palestinian homes and property built without a permit. The report outlines that land is seized for “military needs”, “public needs” for “exclusive Jewish Israeli use”, and for “state land” of which 99.76% has been for Israeli settlements.

“Israelis can destroy or bulldoze your home if they want to,” said Mattar-Patey. “They say it is for their own security – what security? They continue to say ‘we need security and that is why we need the Palestinians out’.”  (more...)

Montreal provides a model for student activism

Canada Montreal education academia youth students activism politics Gaza genocide Palestine protests organizing

In Montreal, the air has carried a specific resonance for over two years.

Every week, the city’s central arteries are filled with rhythmic chants in French, English and Arabic, all echoing the demand for a liberated Palestine. They belong to a movement that refuses to be ignored, and while the world’s eyes often fixate on the Ivy League centers of the United States, Montreal has quietly emerged as a primary engine of the global student intifada, a city where the current struggle for Palestine is grafted onto a deep, radical root system of student syndicalism.

We realized that our universities could not claim to educate us while simultaneously profiting from the erasure of an entire education system in Gaza.

However, the urgency of this movement is not born of student politics alone. As the world witnessed the livestreamed genocide of Gaza, the systematic destruction of every university, the targeted killings of academics and members of the press, and the scholasticide of an entire generation, the geographic buffer between Montreal and Palestine was incinerated.

For us, the destruction was an indictment of our own institutions. We looked at our university endowments and realized we could no longer read about justice in textbooks while our tuition fees funded its erasure.

The anger on Montreal campuses is not directed aimlessly, but at documented entanglements with Israel.  (more...)

Zionist ex Toronto cop calls for even more repression

Canada Toronto Police Service Palestine solidarity repression racism Jewish supremacy Zionism Israel lobby censorship silencing oppression

A retired cop who could fairly be described as a genocidal Jewish supremacist is claiming “antisemitism” in the Toronto police department has led the force to coddle opponents of genocide. The CBC disseminated his claims without question, boosting a fanatic pro-Israel community’s bid to further trample on civil liberties.

Prominent retired cop Hank Idsinga recently told CBC The National host Adrienne Arsenault that he experienced overt anti-Jewishness during his 34 years in the Toronto Police Service (TPS), which concluded three years ago. Idsinga then said the anti-Jewishness he witnessed explains why the police haven’t heeded genocide advocates’ calls to repress social justice protesters. The ‘kill more Palestinians/Lebanese/Iranians’ media network has jumped all over Idsinga’s claims. Canadaland’s Jesse Brown posted, “Former head of homicide for Toronto police says Jew-hating senior officers are in charge of decisions about how to police antizionist protesters.”

But Idsinga’s media presence strongly suggest he is a genocidal Jewish supremacist. In February he spoke with genocide advocates at a Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) event on criminal law and in 20024 was hired as a commentator by anti-Palestinian Global News, doing interviews with Ben ‘genocide’ Mulroney and other anti-Palestinians. More significantly, Idsinga has shown his Zionist hand repeatedly on X. He’s retweeted Tafsik, CIJA, Jerusalem Post, Warren Kinsellla, Chris Alexandre, Vivian Bercovici, Mike Fegelman and other arch Jewish supremacist sources. Claiming that protesting genocide is anti-Jewish, Idsinga pushed to ban Al Quds Day and other anti-genocide protests. He’s also disparaged David Mivisair as an “Anti-Jewish rabbi”. One of his recent retweets noted:

“Canada’s elite virtue-signal about ‘tolerance’ while Al-Quds Day, straight out of Iran’s hate playbook, openly peddles antisemitism, glorifies terrorism, and calls for Israel’s destruction on our streets. Yet judges block injunctions, police stand by, and politicians wring their hands. Result? Synagogues shot up, Jews terrorized, and ‘hate speech’ laws that somehow only catch the wrong people. Tolerating intolerance isn’t progressive, it’s suicidal. Once you let the mob chant for genocide with impunity, don’t act shocked when the mob decides who’s next.”  (more...)

The discussion follows how those themes overlapped with splinter Pentecostal networks, Church of God history, and later revival figures tied to healing ministries.

John also connects Roy E. Is America Becoming a Christian Nationalist State?

Christian Nationalism Pentecostalism cults British Israelism New Apostolic Reformation Ku Klux Klan Jim Jones

Is religion taking over American politics? In this episode of Cults, Culture, & Coercion, Dr. Steven Hassan speaks with scholar Keri Ladner, PhD about Christian nationalism, American Dominion, the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR), and how fringe religious ideologies have invaded mainstream politics.

Dr. Steven Hassan, author of New York Times Bestseller, The Cult of Trump, interviews Keri Ladner, an expert on religious fundamentalism, politics, and the radicalization of religious movements, about her new book American Dominion and the rise of what she describes as a new form of “Christendom," a system where religious authority and political power become deeply intertwined.

Drawing on historical analysis and theological research, Ladner explains how movements once considered fringe have entered mainstream influence. She highlights connections between infamous cult leaders like Jim Jones and William Branham and the development of “Manifest Sons of God” theology, showing how these ideas have evolved and re-emerged in modern movements like the New Apostolic Reformation. These belief systems often emphasize apostles, prophets, and spiritual authority structures that require submission and obedience from followers.

Together, Hassan and Ladner explore how these movements operate not just as belief systems, but as structures of deep political and social influence, using manipulative emotional experiences, peer-pressure laden worship environments, and claims of supernatural/god-like powers to reinforce authority. They examine the role of faith healing, speaking in tongues (glossolalia and Pentecostalism), and confirmation bias in shaping perception and maintaining belief, as well as the real-world consequences when individuals are discouraged by faith healers and religious figures from seeking medical care.

The conversation also highlights the psychological dynamics of coercion and cult influence, including how charismatic leaders establish control, how group reinforcement shapes belief, and how ideology can spread through cultural channels like music and community networks.

If you’ve ever wondered how religious movements gain political influence, how cult dynamics can exist within mainstream institutions, or how to recognize the warning signs of coercive control, this episode offers critical insight grounded in history, psychology, and lived experience.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

  • What “American Dominion” means and how it relates to modern politics
  • How Christian nationalist ideas move from fringe to mainstream
  • The origins and influence of Manifest Sons of God theology
  • Connections between Jim Jones and modern religious movements
  • What the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) is and how it operates
  • How apostles, prophets, and authority structures reinforce control
  • The psychology behind faith healing, speaking in tongues, and confirmation bias
  • How coercive control functions in religious contexts
  • The risks of rejecting medical treatment in favor of belief systems
