Toronto school's tag ban a bummer

TORONTO - Let me see if I understand education in Ontario.

A seven-year-old is hardy enough to learn all about gender-blending and genitalia — but not sturdy enough to play tag?

St. Luke Catholic School on Ossington Ave. has banned fun at recess, at least any fun that involves physical contact, which, if I remember correctly, is pretty much all of it.

So no playing tag for the 250 little terrors at St. Luke.

“Kids were coming in from recess injured,” Toronto Catholic District School Board spokesman John Yan tells me.

Bumps, scrapes, bruises, one sprain, one fracture.

Oh, the humanity.

I bet emergency rooms across the city are standing down, no longer on high alert for the next influx of hopscotch casualties.  (more...)
