Sixteen children rescued and 45 people arrested in crackdown on Super Bowl sex trafficking

Sixteen children forced into prostitution - including teens who had been reported missing by their families - were rescued by the FBI in a two-week operation leading up to the Super Bowl.

The juveniles, aged between 13 and 17, were found in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania, the FBI said. Officials said that the majority were girls.

Authorities also rescued more than 50 women - with many of the alleged victims saying they were forced to travel to New York due to increased demand surrounding Sunday's game, officials said.

'The FBI and its partners remain committed to the identification and rescue of minor victims, and to hold accountable those who exploit children for financial gain,' said Aaron Ford, special agent in charge of the FBI's Newark field office.

Authorities said the Super Bowl and other big sporting events provide potentially lucrative opportunities for sex traffickers.  (more...)
