Trial date set for teacher facing sex charges


A trial for a Brantford teacher charged with sexual offences has been set for May.

Shawn Oakes, 37, is charged with sexual assault, sexual interference and invitation to sexual touching. He has pleaded not guilty.

Oakes was a music teacher at Brantford Collegiate Institute when he was arrested Oct. 29, 2015.

As part of his bail conditions, he is not allowed to in the company of or communicate, directly or indirectly, with males and females under the age of 17, unless in the presence of a surety.

Oakes was ordered to live with his surety in Vittoria, southwest of Simcoe

After his arrest, Oakes was assigned "to home" by his employer, the Grand Erie District School Board, to ensure he is not working with students.  (more...)
