One of Germany’s biggest and most iconic car manufacturers, Volkswagen (VW) and one of Israel’s most well-known arms manufacturers, Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, part of the global Rafael Group, are planning to collaborate. If the project is realized, VW will convert one of its German factories in the historic city of Osnabrueck from making automobiles to producing components of Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system.
There are good reasons why this has raised eyebrows. For one thing, it reflects not only VW’s growing problems, but those of Germany’s vital automobile sector and the German economy as a whole. As the Financial Times has noted, the VW-Rafael project would mark “the highest-profile example yet of the German car industry, where profits have plunged,” trying to save itself by entering the “booming defense sector.”
These plunging profits are due to many factors: Chinese competition; Germany’s failure to keep up with cutting-edge technology, communication infrastructure, and business practices; American sabotage by tariff warfare and filching German companies via subsidies; and last but not least, the horrendous energy costs that the entire EU has inflicted on itself by going to war – by Ukrainian proxy and sanctions – against Russia.
The shift to making things for the military, meanwhile, is just a small part of Germany’s breathtakingly misguided response: Namely, a policy of going into massive public debt – under a so-called conservative – to finance a bizarre form of military Keynesianism that is based on illusions (no, Russia is not about to attack), produces self-reinforcing Russophobia (which makes a return to normality even harder), and won’t work as an economic boost, as even the usually government-aligned Spiegel has admitted.

This company used to make weapons for the Nazis. Now it will do the same for Israel
Lawyers have estimated that as many as 75 women may have a stake in the $72.5 million settlement reached with Bank of America over convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
United States District Judge Jed Rakoff had called on the lawyers to compile a broad list of publications by Friday that could be used to notify Epstein’s victims, who are believed to number in the hundreds.
Rakoff explained he wanted to make sure that “nobody is left out” of the settlement. A final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for August 27.
The settlement was first announced in court filings on March 27, after a proposed class action lawsuit against Bank of America was allowed to proceed.
In October, a woman who went by the pseudonym Jane Doe filed the lawsuit on behalf of herself and the other women and girls who were abused by Epstein.
She and her lawyers argued that Bank of America, the second-largest banking institution in the US, had ignored suspicious transactions related to Epstein’s sex-trafficking operations.
The lawsuit further stated that the Bank of America knowingly benefited from its relationship with Epstein and obstructed enforcement of the Trafficking Victims Protection Act, a federal law designed to prosecute sex trafficking. (more...)

One would think that in the middle of a war, the US would be getting what they need to win. But that's just not the case.
Just when the U.S. military could use reliable machinery for its hot war on Iran, defense contractors plan to send it radarless F-35s that are unfit for combat.
Breaking Defense reported late last week that the military will start accepting F-35s without radars starting this fall. Defense Daily reported last month that some F-35s have already been delivered without them, but the F-35 Joint Program office denied this.
The problem stems from Northrop Grumman’s delays in producing upgraded radars for the F-35 as part of the program’s ongoing modernization effort. The radars are supposed to help the fighter jet detect, track, and target adversarial threats. Not built to host the older radars currently in use, the incoming radarless F-35s can still fly, but will only be used for training purposes until they can be retrofitted with the new radars — effectively sidelining them from combat.
“Right now, [F-35s are] going to be produced with ballasts [instead of the new radars], which…creates an aircraft that’s not going to be combat-coded anytime soon,” Rep. Rob Wittman (R-Va.), chairman of the House Armed Services tactical air and land forces subcommittee, told Breaking Defense earlier this month.
The critical readiness issue the delay creates only stands to compound with time: if Northrop Grumman can deliver the new radars soon, Breaking Defense reports the issue might only affect a “handful” of F-35 deliveries. A dark web market known as Threat Market is listing 375TB of Lockheed Martin data, which it claims was provided by a group calling itself ‘APT Iran.’
Hackers are claiming to have stolen a trove of data belonging to Lockheed Martin, the world’s largest defense contractor and an American aerospace company. They are now selling it on the dark web.
The situation began on March 26, 2026, when a Telegram account linked to a dark web marketplace known as Threat Market, which posts in both Russian and English, claimed it had been approached by a group described as “APT IRAN.” According to the post, the group requested infrastructure support to sell what was described as 375 terabytes of data allegedly taken from Lockheed Martin.
The message further stated that direct access to the platform’s administrative panel had been granted to the APT IRAN group to facilitate the sale. It also referenced the use of cryptocurrency mixers to handle proceeds, a method often used to make payments harder to trace.
Three days later, on March 29, the same Telegram account announced that the entire 375TB of data was officially listed for sale.
