How did he get away with it for so long? Jimmy Savile victims demand single inquiry into how he evaded justice

Victims of Jimmy Savile have called for a single, overarching inquiry into how the serial sex offender was able to evade justice for so long.

They fear the truth will be lost because there are too many separate investigations.

The BBC says its independent inquiry into what the corporation knew about Savile is due to publish its findings this month.

The NHS is also holding several investigations. Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt announced in November that a further 19 hospitals were now carrying out inquiries into links with Savile.

But Alan Collins, the solicitor representing around 60 victims who reported being abused by Savile, said yesterday: ‘There are now so many inquiries taking place there is a danger that an opportunity to get to the whole truth may be lost.’  (more...)
