An equation that is out of balance

Yesterday, we suggested a costless measure (abolishing the list of approved textbooks) that would improve student learning evem more than curriculum revisions. Today we learn that Ontario's answer to the province's math woes is to spend $4 million on professional development for teachers. Presumably everyone concerned, including the Minister of Education herself, is aware that this will make almost no difference whatsoever, but that's politics. Please also note that the Minister indicated that she has no plans to revisit the math curriculum.

However, the Minister may be underestimating the extent of public dissatisfaction with public education.  (more...)
