This is a response to an article in Catholic New Times of Oct. 5, 1997 entitled "Standing up for one's beliefs right in the middle of Mass" by Louise Slobodian. The article is about a public challenge to Fr. Ted Colleton when he celebrated Mass at Holy Name Church on the feast of the Blessed Trinity in late May of this year. Three times on that Trinity feast he was challenged: at the Saturday 5 p.m. Mass, on Sunday at the 9 a.m. Mass and at the 11 a.m. Mass.
It was a privileged occasion for Holy Name parish because Fr. Colleton of the Spiritan Fathers is one of the truly great missionary and pro-life priests of our time. In his 30 years as a priest in Kenya he never heard of an abortion, called by Pope John Paul II "the shame of our age." In Canada he has faced a country brought to its knees by abortion and the contraceptive mentality. He has been a tireless supporter of family values and human life by writing, teaching, preaching, by fasting, vigils and even in prison. I know of no other priest so dedicated to the proclamation of the truth of the charter of life and love called "Humanae Vitae." (more...)
