Hydro bills continue to go up and up and up

On Jan. 1, that annoying gouge on your hydro bill will disappear.

Yep, the “debt retirement charge, (DRC)” will die an unlamented death.

So, your bill will go down, right?

At the same time, the so-called “clean energy benefit,” (CEB) the 10% credit all ratepayers receive on their bill, will disappear.

At the same time, the government will introduce the Ontario Electricity Support Program (OESP), a subsidy to low-income customers. It will be paid for by electricity customers who are not low income.

Here’s the complicated math: The DRC, charged at a rate of 0.7 cents per kilowatt hour of electricity, will disappear from residential (but not industrial) bills.

But your bill will go up 10% because the CEB is being removed.

Meanwhile, requiring local electricity distributors to deliver the OESP is ludicrous.  (more...)

How to say goodbye to Hydro One and its million-dollar bureaucrats:

There was a dog that lay upon a nail. It hurt enough to make him growl, but not enough to make him get up off the nail. Is that dog you? Sign up here:
