Today marks 30 years since the 78-day siege at Kanehsatà:ke by the SQ (Quebec's police) and the Canadian army. Kanien'kehà:ka were defending their lands against the Town of Oka’s plans to expand a golf course over their sacred burial grounds and their lands known as the Pines. Today, Kanien'kehà:ka from Kahnehsatake and Kahnawake are engaged in rolling blockades to mark the day. Today is also a day to honour the grassroots land defenders all over Turtle Island.
