Quinte teacher makes court appearance on sex-related charges


A teacher from the Quinte Region made a brief court appearance this afternoon — facing dozens of sex-related charges involving school children. Jacyln Mclaren, of Stirling, is alleged to have sent sexually explicit images to young male students through a cell phone. As Newswatch’s Nikki Jhutti reports, Mclaren has not yet entered a plea — and remains free on bail while she awaits her day in court.

“A teacher from Tweed wrapped up in a sex scandal involving elementary school aged children was back in a Belleville Court… Jaclyn McLaren is facing 42 sex related charges.”

That’s McLaren in the pink shirt leaving the courthouse, as her family tried to shield her identity. The 36-year old worked as a teacher with the Hastings-Prince Edward School Board, when she was arrested in February. She faces more than 3-dozen charges. Police allege the crimes occurred over a 3-year span while she taught at Tweed elementary school… saying most of the victims are boys… between the ages of 12 and 15.

So far 8 of them have filed sexual assault allegations against their former teacher… McLaren’s long list of charges include sexual exploitation, making child pornography, luring, as well as making sexually explicit materials available to persons under 16…. The investigation was launched by the OPP after a parent found sexually explicit material on their child’s cell phone… The investigation involved detectives visiting other elementary schools where the 36-year old worked to interview students and staff…"  (more...)
