New sex-ed curriculum could challenge TCDSB

The Toronto Catholic District School Board is facing a big challenge when it comes to the new sex-ed curriculum introduced by the provincial government. The board will have to abide by a curriculum that potentially undermines its religious teachings.

Currently in Catholic elementary schools, family life education is presented through the lens of the Fully Alive program, with the goal of presenting a distinctively Catholic view of human life, sexuality, marriage and family.

Mike Pautler, executive director of the Institute for Catholic Education, which is in charge of implementing new curriculums in Catholic schools, said they were involved in talks with the minister over the new curriculum at the start but they were left out of the final phase.  (more...)
