 Preface

After the Winnipeg Statement was made public, Cardinal O'Boyle of Washington, who was hosting a meeting of the U.S. Bishops, asked me to write this commentary on the Canadian Winnipeg Statement.  This I did and it included the document mentioned above.  Every American Bishop was given a copy.  I also sent a copy to the Holy Father and was thanked in his name by the Secretary of State, Cardinal Cicognani.  In addition, I sent a copy to every Canadian Bishop and to all of the English-speaking Bishops of the world.  This commentary was never published.  (more...)
