TORONTO - Additional charges have been laid against three Toronto Police officers who were accused last month of planting heroin on a suspect in a case dating to 2014.
Four police officers — Const. Jeffery Tout, Const. Benjamin Elliot, Det.-Const. Fraser Douglas, and Const. Michael Taylor — were first slapped with charges in late January in a case allegedly involving lies told in court.
All four are accused of planting heroin and lying under oath during the trial of a man named Nguyen Son Tran. The officers face charges of obstructing justice and perjury.
Three of them were handed additional charges on Monday.
Tout faces one more count of perjury and two new counts of obstructing justice.
Elliot and Douglas each face one more count of obstructing justice.
“The additional five charges arise from the same set of circumstances as the initial charges,” Toronto Police said in a statement. (more...)
