Amateur Sherlocks: Cold-case website lets users search records of unsolved Toronto murders

Toronto police have launched a new homicide cold-case website that allows users to access decades-old records.

The launch of the new website was announced by Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders during a news conference Wednesday.

The website lets users search cases by year or by victim's name. Users can access information on cases dating back to 1959, including how to contact investigators with more information.

"We have taken the time to re-tool the web page to make it more interactive and informative," Saunders said Wednesday.

"We would encourage the public to go to the website and use social media to spread the word on the individual cases and people wanted for murder."

In the coming weeks, Toronto officers will be releasing short video clips on the website, hoping to spark the memories of those with more information on cold cases.

Appeals were released Wednesday on three Toronto cold cases, from 1987, 2003 and 2010.  (more...)
