Notre Dame’s Film, Television, and Theatre Department recently presented two homosexual-themed plays and a movie (rated R for nudity) about a same-sex relationship. The production of the plays was hailed as a “testament to progress” for the “LGBTQ community,” but there was no indication as to whether or not they integrated Catholic teaching on human sexuality.
The plays—Beneath My Skin and Out of Orbit—were written, produced, and directed by Notre Dame students and ran from October 2 -October 12 at the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center on campus.
Beneath My Skin followed the story of a man struggling to come out during the “uber-conservative early 1960s and again in the AIDs-wrought ‘80s,” according to The Observer, while Out of Orbit reportedly centered on a young man coming out to his family by bringing his boyfriend home to them.
