TCDSB director of education should tell parents the whole truth

A letter, dated Nov. 19, 2014, sent to parents by the Toronto Catholic District School Board's (TCDSB) Director of Education, Angela Gauthier and Chair of the Board, Jo-Ann Davis, informs them that the Ministry of Education plans to consult with parent councils regarding the updated controversial Health and Physical education curriculum. The government intends to implement it for the school year 2015. The letter is obviously written to minimize parental concerns. In 2010, the premier at the time Dalton McGuinty was forced to withdraw the curriculum because of the strong backlash from worried parents. So, selected parents are now going to be consulted, on the sex component part, even though the curriculum hasn't seen the light of day. This makes no sense, unless the government has a plan to make sure the consultation process is biased and the findings will only rubber-stamp their plans. If the Liberals wanted to really consult parents, they would have made this an election issue or open the current consultation process to all Ontarians. Ontario parents didn't vote for the Liberal government to potentially unleash on students a radical sex education curriculum that is completely age inappropriate and abusive.  (more...)
