More cynically, what she was really buying was an election.
Her predecessor, Dalton McGuinty, waged war on the unions with the controversial Bill 115, that imposed a pay freeze, theoretically removed the right of teachers to strike and took away their ability to bank sick days.
The powerful teacher unions have provided massive financial support for the Liberals, especially through the so-called Working Families Coalition, which is a front for union support.
Now provincial auditor-general Bonnie Lysyk has revealed the true cost of Wynne's cave-in to the unions: a whopping $468 million.
Wynne would have you believe it's not her fault.
She'll say $200 million in improved benefits was implemented on McGuinty's watch.
What rot.
Wynne was at the cabinet table that masterminded Bill 115.
Same government - just a different face. (more...)
