Francesca Albanese is the United Nations’ Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.
She issued her latest report, “Gaza Genocide: a collective crime”, in October 2025, accusing dozens of UN members states of complicity in Israel’s genocide. It noted that since October 2023, only Belize, Bolivia, Colombia and Nicaragua had suspended diplomatic relations with Israel.
Her previous report concluded that more than 60 international companies were sustaining Israel’s expansion on occupied land and enabling the surveillance and killing of Palestinians.
Ghida Fakhry speaks with Francesca Albanese about diplomatic failures, and how popular movements are stepping in to fill the void.
