The Maple has recorded cases where pages linked to on the Find IDF Soldiers website have been deleted, modified or made private.
Find IDF Soldiers, The Maple’s database of Canadians who have joined the Israeli military, contains more than 2,200 links spread between the 206 profiles on the website. All of the links were active as of the date each profile was published.
In an effort to keep the database as clean as possible, I’ve run occasional scans of the site with third-party software that returns reports on dead links. These scans have found dozens of them.
In some cases, these links have been to material that describes an individual’s involvement in the Israeli military. There have also been cases where an existing piece of content has been edited to remove mentions of participation in the Israeli military, or where it has been made private.
In order to preserve the public record, this article lists all the dead links and modified content I’ve discovered pertaining to Israeli military service. It’s likely that the article doesn’t contain all existing examples due to potential inadequacies in the collection process, such as that some sources are only textually linked on the site, meaning an automated program can’t pick them up.
In most cases, it’s unclear who removed or edited the content, or why they may have done so. This article is not being published to make any accusations about why content has been removed or edited, but merely to note that it has happened. (more...)
