Premier Kathleen Wynne

Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne has made a political career of demanding other levels of government give her more money.

Back when she was starting out as a left-wing Toronto school trustee, Wynne demanded more money from the then provincial Conservative government, just as she demanded more money from the federal Conservative government last week.

From 2000 to 2003, Wynne was one of the leaders of a trustee revolt on the Toronto school board, which refused to submit a balanced budget to Queen’s Park, even though boards weren’t (and aren’t) allowed to run deficits by law.

That led to the province temporarily taking over the Toronto board which then, as now, was in a state of chaos due to fiscal mismanagement and a refusal to implement such obvious savings as selling half-empty schools.  (more...)
