Catholic teachers union dropped about $2.8 million on the Ontario election

The October issue of the Ontario English Catholic Teachers' Association (OECTA) magazine reveals that they had planned to spend $2.8 million on the provincial election that took place in the summer.

"The provincial executive had the foresight to create a two-phase election-readiness plan with a budget totaling $2.8 million.  Phase one consisted of public billboards and transit shelter ads, and phase two included both outdoor and television ads," says page six of the OECTA magazine.

Note that the sum of $2.8 million was spent by the provincial executive.  It does not include the amount spend by OECTA locals to campaign for local left-wing candidates.

How could such a large amount be spent?  About $700,000 per year is poured into the union's political action fund.  (more...)
