Charges considered against Alberta MLA caught in prostitution sting

MLA MIKE ALLEN

EDMONTON - The former Tory MLA arrested in connection with an undercover prostitution sting has issued an apology, while charges are considered in Minnesota.

Mike Allen -- a former Tory MLA for Fort McMurray-Wood Buffalo -- resigned from caucus Tuesday after he was arrested by Minnesota cops conducting an undercover prostitution sting.

The 51-year-old elected official was one of 13 men arrested Monday night by officers with the St. Paul Police Department's human trafficking unit.

Investigators placed an online ad on backpage.com as part of their regular prostitution detail that aims to curb such activity by arresting prostitutes and johns in the city.

Charges against Allen -- who was in Minnesota to attend a legislative conference -- are being considered by the St. Paul city attorney's office.  (more...)
