Liberal government at fault for school turmoil

At the most crucial time in the school year, there’s utter chaos in classrooms across the province.

Secondary school teachers in Peel, Durham and Sudbury are already on strike and now an elementary teacher strike looms.

The Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) has put the province and the boards on notice that they’ll begin an “administrative” strike Monday if they can’t reach an agreement. They’ve been without a contract since September.

Teachers won’t participate in EQAO testing, fill out report cards or take part in professional development.

At the same time, in certain schools, parents have withdrawn their kids in droves to protest the new sex-ed curriculum.

On the one hand, we have kids out of school because their parents are protesting government high-handedness on sex-ed and on the other, we have kids out of school because their teachers are protesting government mismanagement in labour negotiations.

In both cases, it’s entirely the fault of the Liberal government of Kathleen Wynne, which has botched so many files.  (more...)
