Parents should know when sex ed. will be taught: trustee


CAMBRIDGE - Parents should have access to sex education curriculum timelines in case they want to excuse their children from lessons they deem inappropriate, says a local trustee.

Cambridge public school trustee Cindy Watson served a notice of motion on May 11 asking the Waterloo Region District School Board to publicly share dates when sexual health components will be taught so parents who object to the material will know when to withdraw their children from class.

The trustee’s proposed motion also aims to assure parents they have a right under the board’s religion accommodations policy to excuse their children if they don’t want their kids present when some sexual subjects are being discussed.  (more...)
