Decision not to prosecute Lord Janner being reviewed by top Queen's Counsel

A senior Queen's Counsel is to review the decision not to prosecute Lord Greville Janner.

Lord Janner, a former Leicester MP, is accused of a string of alleged sex abuses during the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s.

Last month the Director of Public Prosecutions Alison Saunders decided not to prosecute because he was suffering from Alzheimer's Disease.

The decision cause an outcry from alleged victims and Leicestershire Police who had been investigating the allegations.

In a statement, a Crown Prosecution Service spokesperson confirmed the QC has had "no previous involvement with the decision" and would be named on completion of the review.  (more...)
