Sex, Politics, and Censorship: How a Sex Ed Organization Got Pulled Into the Israel-Palestine Conflict

 

In September 2024, MintPress News exposed how Project Shema, an Israel lobby group closely aligned with the notorious Anti-Defamation League (ADL), infiltrated U.S. public schools, seeking to inculcate pupils and teachers alike in liberal Zionist dogma and stifle debate and dissent on Tel Aviv’s deadly war on Gaza, under the bogus aegis of battling anti-Jewish hatred. Fast forward to today, and Project Shema has quietly trained its crosshairs on the unlikeliest of targets – the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT).

Readers would be forgiven for being unfamiliar with AASECT. Founded in 1967, the organization publishes peer-reviewed journals on sex education and therapy and maintains a directory of certified sexual health practitioners, helping connect those in need with appropriate assistance. Its membership runs to a few thousand people, comprising medical professionals, psychologists, marriage counselors, family planning specialists, lawyers, students, and others. While a highly respected institution in the field, AASECT is not on the mainstream radar and will be wholly unknown to many Americans.

This begs the obvious question of how and why the organization ended up in the Israel lobby’s crosshairs. It is a deeply sordid tale, spelled out in often shocking detail in material provided to MintPress News by a whistleblower within AASECT, who wishes to remain anonymous. The documentation shows Project Shema inserting itself into the Association was the culmination of long-running, determined and intensely malign efforts by Zionists within the organization’s ranks to force AASECT to adopt a pro-Israel stance and neutralize internal Palestinian solidarity.

Along the way, dissenting AASECT members were viciously attacked and ostracized, their concerns ignored, and the organization’s leadership successfully bullied again and again into capitulating to the excessive, unreasonable demands from Israel’s backers. At one stage, the Association’s president outright resigned due to the pressure. Ever since AASECT’s internal discussion platforms have been heavily moderated. Those speaking up for Palestine are censored, while Israeli propaganda talking points and unabashed Islamophobia abound without hindrance or rebuttal.

While AASECT may be a niche entity, the details of how it was aggressively brought to heel by the Israel lobby are of enormous wider relevance. Evidently, no sphere of public or professional life is off-limits to Zionist penetration and corruption. The tawdry saga should serve as an urgent warning to all who are sympathetic to the Palestinians’ plight. “Safe spaces” to express solidarity are ever-shrinking in every sphere – and your school, university, workplace, professional organization, or even social club could be next.  (more...)

UK: Reports of sex abuse between children double in two years

 

Reports of children sexually abusing other children doubled in the two years to 2019, according to police figures obtained by BBC Panorama.

The programme has followed up on research from 2017, when police recorded almost 8,000 reports of abuse among under-18s in England and Wales.

Yearly reports have risen to between 15,000 and 16,000, but cases fell in 2020-21 during the pandemic.

In about 10% of reported cases the alleged abuser was aged 10 or under.

And overall, a big majority of cases involved boys abusing girls.

Thirty-four of the 43 police forces in England and Wales responded to Freedom of Information requests asking for the number of sexual offences reports, including rape and sexual assault, where both the alleged perpetrator and victim were under 18.

The figures did not include the online offence of non-consensual sharing of private sexual images or videos.

The Labour MP and former teacher, Emma Hardy, said: "I still think that those figures might be an underestimation of the extent of the problem, because not all cases ended up going to the police. Not all things are reported."  (more...)

A Toronto Catholic District School Board religion teacher was found guilty of professional misconduct after her former students told a tribunal that she went on frequent sexually-laced tirades before demonstrating her flexibility in front of the class by putting her legs behind her head.

Leanora Brown did not appear in front of the three-person tribunal at the Ontario College of Teachers on Tuesday, but denied the allegations, including telling students about her sex life, her parents’ sex life and giving advice about what they should do in their own, in a letter to the school’s superintendent.

“I felt like she wasn’t qualified to be a teacher,” one student said before the tribunal. “That’s not something you’re supposed to say to a student in a religion class.”

According to the two students who appeared in front of the tribunal but cannot be identified due to a publication ban, Brown regularly made them feel uncomfortable in class.

Shortly after class began on Feb. 25, 2015, one student testified, Brown began to speak about her personal life. She told Grade 10 students that the reason her mother had 20 children was because she was “horny.” Brown recalled asking her mother once asking her why she was “so black.”

Parents opting for private schools over sex-ed curriculum

There’s been an explosion of private religious schools opening in this province since the implementation of the new sex-ed curriculum in September of last year.

According to numbers obtained from the ministry of education, 127 new private schools have opened since 2015 — many of them private Christian, Islamic and other faith schools.

It’s not much of a stretch to link the boom to the government’s roll-out of its controversial sex-ed curriculum.

Private schools don’t have to teach the provincial curriculum.

“As private schools operate independently of the Ministry of Education, the ministry does not regulate, license, accredit or otherwise oversee the operation of private schools,” said ministry spokesman Heather Irwin.  (more...)

An Evangelical, a NeoCatholic, and a Social Conservative Met in a Bar

Frozen out by PC leader Patrick Brown, social conservatives are putting the squeeze on prominent Tory MPP Monte McNaughton over the party’s sex-education flip-flop.

Parent activists are turning on one-time ally McNaughton because they feel let down by Brown after his office secretly negotiated — and then reneged on — a pledge to “scrap” the health curriculum during the recent Scarborough-Rouge River byelection.

The Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP, a champion of social conservative causes, sent in the final weekend of the Sept. 1 byelection campaign a fundraising appeal tied to eliminating the sex-education lesson plan.

For his trouble, McNaughton on Thursday received a blistering letter from Tanya Granic Allen, president of Parents As First Educators (PAFE), which opposes curriculum implemented by Premier Kathleen Wynne’s Liberals.

“The last time I heard from you was via a mass emailer you sent out on Saturday, Aug. 27 entitled ‘A PC Government would scrap Kathleen Wynne’s sex-ed changes,’” wrote Granic Allen.

“In that email, you told the recipients that ‘earlier this week, Ontario PC Leader Patrick Brown circulated a letter to parents across Ontario’ and you further explained that ‘in this letter, Patrick firmly committed to scrapping the Wynne-Liberals’ new sex-ed curriculum upon the election of a PC government,’ ” the activist continued.

“You also asked us to make a financial donation to Raymond Cho’s campaign, the candidate in the Scarborough-Rouge River byelection.

“Of course, since then, Patrick Brown has ‘scrapped’ this very commitment to Ontario parents and he now essentially supports Kathleen Wynne and her sex-ed agenda.”  (more...)

Deja vu all over again: Teacher’s Society suggests Hanover trustees change LGBTTQ teaching policy

Manitoba Teachers' Society president Norm Gould speaks to Hanover trustees at
a board meeting Wednesday where he offered their organization's full support if
trustees want their help.

Another group is encouraging the Hanover School Division to change a policy that prohibits teachers from talking about same-sex families and LGBTTQ issues in elementary school classrooms.

The Manitoba Teacher's Society said it’s not an easy change but one that is necessary.

"Whether you are in Steinbach or Thompson, Swan River or Flin Flon - every child should be in a school that is inclusive, accepting and understanding of our differences," said Norm Gould, Manotiba Teacher’s Society president.

The suggestion came with a quiet response from trustees, who say they stick by their current policies.

Mika Schellenberg, an openly gay grade-12 student grew up in the Hanover School Division, and would like to see change too.

"I would have liked to learn that it existed, that it was okay,” said Schellenberg.  (more...)

A Hamilton father wants the courts to find the public school board violated his Charter rights by refusing to notify him in advance of activities that might cover "false teachings" according to his religion so he could pull his children out of class.

Steve (Eustathios) Tourloukis, who mounted his constitutional challenge in 2012, had his case heard in Hamilton's Superior Court on Thursday.

His concerns include the gay lifestyle, non-traditional marriages, sexuality and abortion.

His lawyer, Alberto Polizogopoulos, argued it was a simple request.

But the school board's lawyer said the request was vague and "framed in a way where it is impossible to manage."

The teachers' union lawyer called it "not only unreasonable, but also unfeasible."

Polizogopoulos described the Hamilton-Wentworth District Public School Board's position like this: If the request were granted, it could hurt other students' feelings if he pulled out his children — who were then in JK and Grade 2 at Gordon Prince elementary.

"The only thing the school board considered was the feelings of these hypothetical children who might be offended by (Tourloukis') belief," he said.

"The school's erroneous or speculative belief that other kids would be discriminated against led them to say 'no exception.'"  (more...)

see sexual abuse prevention and reporting in Alberta's school curriculum.

School children should learn in every grade how to prevent and report sexual abuse and assault, says the board chairwoman of Edmonton Catholic Schools.

The Catholic school board voted 6-1 Tuesday to push the Alberta government to include in its revamp of the K-12 curriculum annual lessons to empower children against sexual abuse.

“(Perpetrators) say, ‘This is our secret,’ and they scare the children, and they intimidate them, and the children don’t have the capacity to know what to do, who to talk to, who to trust,” board chair Marilyn Bergstra said.

Some public schools in the U.S. are required to teach sexual assault prevention thanks to Erin’s Law. The law is named for sexual assault survivor Erin Merryn, who pushed for states to pass the law requiring school districts to teach children to “tell on anyone who tries to touch their private parts.”  (more...)
