William MacGillivray, teacher, gets 2 ½ years in prison for sex crimes

Former Harrison Trimble High School teacher William MacGillivray has been sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison for two sex crimes against a female student and for obstructing police.

Court of Queen's Bench Justice Jean-Paul Ouellette imposed sentence on Thursday afternoon, giving MacGillivray 104 days' credit for the time he has already spent in custody.

He said MacGillivray was in a position of trust and the sentence had to denounce the crime.

Teachers have an important role and it's up to them to uphold the law, Ouellette said.  (more...)
