History books may never tell the full story of the dictatorship that terrorized Argentina from 1976 to 1984.

But newly declassified United States military and intelligence documents recently delivered to Argentina offer new details about the country’s brutal military junta.

The archival documents were the fourth and final batch of 43,000 declassified U.S. telegrams, military records, intelligence and confidential memos given to Argentina following an extraordinary 2016 agreement between Argentine President Mauricio Macri and former U.S. President Barack Obama.

“Argentines now have more information about a dark period of our history that will allow us to continue strengthening justice, seeking and finding the truth,” Macri said on Twitter after receiving the 7,500-document report on April 12.

The archives narrate the human rights abuses committed by Argentina’s military government, often with the assistance of the United States. They include the forced disappearances of 30,000 people, international assassination squads that stalked their victims abroad and the kidnapping of hundreds of babies born in detention.  (more...)

'It's fascists using children as a front': Former Greenpeace activist compares student climate strikes to the Hitler Youth

environment ecology fascism education Nazi politics

A former Greenpeace activist has sensationally compared student climate change strikes to the Hitler Youth.

Doctor Patrick Moore served for nine years as President of Greenpeace Canada and seven years as a Director of Greenpeace International.

Talking to 2GB Radio's Alan Jones on Thursday morning, Dr Moore said students are being used by activists who are behind the global climate strikes.

'Whether it's the Hitler Youth or whatever it is really mainly fascists and communists that use children in this way, as a front,' he said.

'They should be condemned outright by everyone in the world.'

The Hitler Youth was an organisation set up by Adolf Hitler in 1933 to indoctrinate young boys with Nazi ideals, including 'racial purity'.

Dr Moore said children are 'blindly following' a climate agenda and aren't being taught logic or scientific methods.

He also also believes children are being used as an 'ends to justify the means by abusing young minds as they aren't mature enough to be making serious decisions'.  (more...)

Sex assault trial begins for Whitby elementary school teacher

abuse crime education misconduct pedophilia rape

DURHAM — A trial has begun for an elementary school teacher accused of sexually assaulting 15 children over a span of eight years.

Thomas Grieve pleaded not guilty Tuesday to a 30-count indictment alleging he committed sexual assault and sexual interference against the children, with whom he is alleged to have come into contact through his roles as a teacher and a coach.

Grieve, 40, taught Grade 6 through 8 at Whitby’s Robert Munsch Public School from 2011 to 2018, and prior to that taught at E.A. Fairman Public School, also in Whitby. He’s also been involved as a volleyball coach and taught summer and night school courses.

It’s alleged Grieve’s inappropriate contact with children meets the definition of sexual assault, prosecutor Tammy D’Eri told Justice Marquis Felix as the trial began. The Crown alleges the incidents occurred between 2010 and early 2018.  (more...)

Old Nazis, New Right

fascism Nazi politics books business Religious Right Coors
Fascism is on the rise across the planet. However this is not necessarily a new phenomenon.  As Russ Bellant reveals in in his classic books “The Coors Connection” and “Old Nazis, The New Right, and the Republican Party” fascism has always been an active force in American politics. Bellant’s books also offer clues to the rise of fascism in places like Ukraine. Not only did the United States and Britain recruit fascist war criminals during and after World War 2 they  actually invited them to immigrate to the United States, Canada, Australia, and South America. As if that wasn’t shocking enough instead of these fascist war criminals hiding out and keeping a low profile they were instead incorporated into America’s Republican party and became a powerful lobby both during and after the cold war. They became a key element in the CIA psychological warfare campaign against the Soviet Union. Worse as the Soviet Union was being destroyed the CIA and the NED funded the return of these fascists to their homelands to recreate fascist parties. In the case of Croatia and more recently Ukraine they were with the help of the CIA and NED allowed to seize power. They were allowed to shape America’s Policy through lobbies like the American Security Council. They were part of a global network of fascist exiles, terrorists, death squads and drug dealers that made up the infamous World Anti-Communist League or WACL that I discussed in two earlier articles.

However the power of America’s fascist lobbies did not only affect those living in Eastern Europe. As Russ Bellant discusses in the Coors Connection America’s home grown fascists were the true motor behind the Reagan Counter-Revolution of the 1980’s which sent America and the rest of the world on the path to the economic disaster we all face. One wealthy German-American family the Coors were able to reshape the entire country in the image of their own racist and reactionary views.  (more...)

'What the hell have you done with the tomorrows we gave you?'

fascism Nazi war immigration hate racism white supremacy xenophobia anti-semitism history

Six days before D-Day, Max Meisels and his fellow Jewish soldiers got an order from their commanding officer.

“If the Germans catch you, you’re dead,” the officer told them. “You have 10 minutes. Go to the telephone book and get a new name.”

Meisels emerged from that meeting as Martin Maxwell, the name he carried throughout his time in the British army and bears to this day.

Maxwell went on to play a key role in the early hours of D-Day, the opening salvo of the bloody Allied invasion that ultimately led to the defeat of the German army.

At the time, Maxwell felt he had helped strike a decisive blow against the rabid anti-Semitism that fuelled Adolf Hitler’s rise and led to the killings of millions of Jews, including his own relatives.

But today, as hate crimes against Jews surge dramatically in Canada and around the world, the longtime Toronto resident and decorated veteran isn’t so sure.

“I feel like I’m reliving the 1930s,” Maxwell, 95, said in an interview. “The rise of anti-Semitism is something unbelievable.”  (more...)

Canadian Military Confirms Neo-Nazi Group Atomwaffen Was Within Its Ranks

An explosive report, showing wide-ranging links between Canadian soldiers and a myriad of far-right organizations, confirms the infamous American neo-Nazi group Atomwaffen Division was in the ranks of the Canadian Armed Forces. The group is considered a domestic terror organization by American racism watchdog the Southern Poverty Law Centre.

The report, an official Canadian Armed Forces document, is an affirmation of reporting by VICE Canada showing how neo-Nazis and other far-right actors openly sought military training from the CAF. VICE received a copy of the report from the CAF after it was first distributed to Fabrice de Pierrebourg of Montreal radio station 98.5 FM, then reported on by Global News.

Titled “White Supremacy, Hate Groups, and Racism in The Canadian Armed Forces" and dated to November 2018, the report was produced by the Military Police Criminal Intelligence Section, which found that sixteen members of the CAF had bonafide connections to six hate groups since 2013.

Despite the alarming number of Canadian soldiers with verified links to a handful of the most well known far-right groups—beyond Atomwaffen Division that includes; the criminal neo-Nazi organization the Hammerskins Nation, the far-right groups Proud Boys, Quebecois nationalist group La Meute, a paramilitary militia known as the III% and the anti-immigrant collective Soldiers of Odin—the CAF doesn’t consider it a broader problem within the military.  (more...)

Why Canada's money-laundering problem is far bigger than we think

accountability transparency shell companies money laundering real estate crime corruption banks finance corporations

On May 9, an expert panel on money laundering issued its report, Combatting Money Laundering in BC Real Estate, in which it estimated 2018 money laundering in Canada at $46.7 billion. In a recent C.D. Howe Institute report, titled Why We Fail to Catch Money Launderers 99.9% of the Time, I estimate money laundering in Canada at $100 billion to $130 billion. Who’s right?

Actually, it doesn’t matter. Both estimates are massive. They sound an alarm for action, and we now turn to our federal and provincial leaders to implement a public registry of beneficial ownership, as recommended by both reports.

Unfortunately, instead of action, some officials have attacked the panel report for its surprising allocation of money laundering among the provinces (for example, Alberta’s share was 55 per cent greater than British Columbia’s) and that likely misallocation is being used to undermine the credibility of its estimated national amount.

Let’s be clear. The report’s estimate of $46.7 billion is very conservative. And any misallocation of that amount among the provinces is not the panel’s fault. It’s Canada’s.  (more...)
