... study included in the IJCAM June issue is “Narcissistic Sexual Predation: Keith Raniere’s Grooming Strategies in NXIVM”, by Susan Raine, from the Department of Sociology, MacEwan University, Canada.

Professor Raine focuses on a particular facet of Raniere’s criminal behavior — the grooming of women for sexual exploitation and abuse, and “the extent to which he victimized many of his followers — especially those who were most dedicated to him.”

She examines the multiple grooming strategies that the ‘Vanguard’ embedded in the curriculum of ESP, Jness, the Society of Protectors (SOP) and the infamous DOS to disseminate his ideas.

Raine also sets out to explain how “[g]rooming women and establishing female submission were interconnected processes in NXIVM.”

Adult sexual grooming can be described as “any situation in which an adult is primed to permit themselves to be abused and/or exploited for sexual gratification of another” and it involves a good deal of “emotional and psychological manipulation tactics”.

Adults are usually more experienced, and have more connections, so the grooming of adults as a process “may be extensive and often unfolds over a series of stages during which the abusers will ‘mask their intentions’ and ‘prime their target for abuse'”.

It is also known that most adult groomers display characteristics typical of narcissistic or antisocial personality types, targeting the vulnerabilities of the adults that they groom.  (more...)

Life Reinvented, NXIVM Style – a Study

 

Reinventive Institutions are a feature of societies where conventional social structures are broken. In those groups, “members have come to terms with their own personal decision that, due to their flaws and limitations, they are in need of improvement, of ‘self-actualization'”.

That is the core examination contained in the article: “Reinventing the Self: NXIVM’s Promises, Secrets, and Lies”, by Susan Raine, a Professor from the Department of Sociology, MacEwan University, Canada.

Professor Raine utilizes Susie Scott’s ‘reinventive institution’ thesis, one that was built upon the earlier Erving Goffman’s concept of the ‘total institution’.

Raine attempts to situate NXIVM within this cultural milieu of the reinventive institutions, and examine its “structure, the nature of interpersonal relationships, and the promises that the movement and its founder, Keith Raniere, made”.

From the outset, she reminds us that “reinventive institutions incorporate structures of power that render them far from benign”.  (more...)

The abortions and what they signify are central to the entire NXIVM case.

Procreation of the prized Avatar baby – Keith’s world-savior successor, and repressed competition among the women over that highest honor, motivated much of the abusive activity that went on. IMO.

I know, for example, Pam Cafritz’s failure to cure her disintegrations (in Keith’s estimation), to be a worthy Avatar vessel, was used to justify her multiple abortions. Her hope to posthumously bear the true Avatar may have been why she willed her ovaries to Keith.

Toni Natalie once told me that Nancy and Keith tried to lure her back to the fold on the same promise though she was medically unable to bear a child.

Kristin Snyder was convinced she was and, indeed, may have been impregnated by Keith upon her disappearance and there’s strong evidence my sister Gina had an abortion arranged by NX leaders within months prior to her death.

Rosa Laura Junco offered her virgin daughter to Keith for this reason and reportedly imported over a dozen LeBaron virgins to Albany when her own daughter opted out.

Lauren Salzman testified that she joined DOS bc Keith finally agreed to allow her to bear his child after forcing prior abortions on her.  (more...)

Clare Bronfman Was Neglected By Her Mom, Learned Business and Finance from Raniere

 

We learn a few new things here about Clare.  We knew that her parents’ marriage was tumultuous and that they married and divorced twice and that Georgiana moved to England with Clare and Sara.

What is new is that Clare’s attorneys allege that Clare’s mother was not  present much in her children’s lives insofar as she “spent a considerable portion of Ms. Bronfman’s childhood living in Kenya [while] Ms. Bronfman’s father remained in the United States.”

I wonder how much of the time the young Bronfman girls were without either parent or any caring relative.

Her attorneys write that Clare “was raised instead by a ‘revolving door of nannies,’ who were   often  ‘grossly under qualified [sic], too   young, intoxicated, or otherwise unsuited.’”

This of course is a strong and new allegation: That Clare was an uncared-for youth, raised by unsuitable nannies while her mother and father were off on their own self-centered lives, with little to no regard for their children.  (more...)
