"One by One" is one of the films that will, one day, be recognized as a pivotal point in the awakening of humanity.

A group of friends meets at a cafeteria to discuss population reduction conspiracy theories. One scene features Ernest explaining how a bio-engineered virus and fake science could be used to reduce the population by 95%. Ernest suggests "mass genocide on a scale never seen before. There is a mass of ways to introduce population slaughter, staged events and the use of bio-engineered diseases, not this generation but the next." Dion replies, "That's madness!" To which Ernest replies (with Mayall's characteristic, quick wit, and final joke) "You're right, they would never wait for two generations."

Rik Mayall died suddenly and unexpectedly at his home in London on 9 June 2014 at the age of 56, 5 months after the film's release.
