Chris Spence, whose soaring star as an educator crashed four years ago amid accusations of plagiarism, has been found guilty of professional misconduct by the Ontario College of Teachers.
The brief decision from the college’s disciplinary committee was posted on its website.
After considering evidence and submissions presented at a hearing in October, “the facts support a finding of professional misconduct,” the committee said in its decision.
The decision noted that Spence represented himself and did not attend the hearing. “Written reasons for this decision will follow,” the committee said.
Spence did not reply to an email requesting comment.
Toronto District School Board spokesperson Ryan Bird said the board declined comment.
The decision, dated Nov. 11, comes almost four years after the education community was rocked by the plagiarism scandal, which began with accusations that he had cribbed passages for an opinion piece he wrote for the Star in January 2013. (more...)
