A businesswoman accused of stabbing a man at a Rosedale apartment complex is due to appear in a Toronto court on Monday.
Ellis Kirkland, 60, has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and other charges related to a stabbing that occurred on the morning of March 10.
Police said a 67-year-old doorman at the apartment building had been stabbed repeatedly with a kitchen knife. He was treated in hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, and was released on Saturday.
Kirkland was taken into custody several hours after the incident, when police found her on a highrise hotel balcony. Tactical officers rappelled from the roof to reach Kirkland after an hours-long "crisis" situation.
Kirkland, a Harvard University-educated architect, is currently being held at the Vanier Centre for Women in Milton, Ont. She will be represented by two lawyers, Mitchell Worsoff and former Liberal MP and lawyer, John Nunziata, in mental health court on Monday. (more...)
