UK House of Commons Deputy Speaker Nigel Evans charged with eight sexual offences

The MP, who is openly gay, was originally arrested in May
on suspicion of rape and sexual assault upon two men.

The Commons Deputy Speaker has been charged with eight alleged sexual offences against seven men.

Nigel Evans is accused of two counts of indecent assault, five counts of sexual assault and one rape.

He will appear before magistrates in Preston on September 18. He has stood down from his Commons post but insists he will continue as an MP.

The Tory MP, who emerged tonight from Preston police station after nearly 12 hours questioning, has consistently denied the allegations made against him.  (more...)
